hypersensitivity exam 4 Flashcards
what is hypersensitivity
Hypersensitivity is a NORMAL immune response that is:
-inappropriately triggered
OR
-excessive
OR
-produces undesirable effects on the body
how are types I, II, III mediated
mediated by ANTIBODIES produced by B cells
how is type IV mediated
mediated by T cells
-delayed response
What is type I
IgE mediated reaction
- in response to someone reacting from allergy
what is type II
cytotoxic reaction
-giving someone the wrong type of blood
what antibodies are involved in type II
IgG and IgM
What is type III
immune complex reaction
-antigen antibody complex; causing inflammation
what is difference between type II and type III
type II - direct cell death
type III - don’t actually destroy; inflammation destroys
what is type IV
delayed hypersensitivity
-poison ivy, positive TB skin test, jewelry
what cells does type IV involve
T-cells not antibodies
how does epinephrine work in the body
inhibits release of mediators from mast cells
