Hormones and Minerals affecting Bone growth Flashcards
What are the Vitamins affecting bone growth?
Vitamin A, C, D, K and B12.
What is Vitamin A used for in bones?
It is used for the activity of Osteoblast during the Remodelling of bones and a deficiency in this will stunt bone growth.
What is Vitamin C used for in bones?
It is used for the creation of Collagen Fibers and a lack of this will lead to the slowed growth of bones and delays repair.
What is Vitamin D used for in Bones?
It is used for the absorption of calcium into the blood from the Gastrointestinal tract.
A deficiency in calcium leads to slowed bone growth.
What is Vitamin K and 12 used for in bones?
they are used for Synthesizing bone proteins and a Deficiency leads to abnormal protein production on the extracellular matrix decreased bone density.
What are the hormones related to Bone Homeostasis and growth?
Growth hormone(GH), Insulin-like Growth factors(IGFs), Thyroid hormones and Insulin(T3, T4), Sex Hormones, Parathyroid Hormone (PTH) and Calcitonin(CT).
What is GH used for in Bones?
It promotes all tissue growth including bone stimulating while also the production of (IGFs).
What is Insulin-like Growth factors used for (IGFs)?
It is used to promote normal bone growth by stimulating Osteoblast and the production Proteins used to build new bone.
What are (T3) Thyroid hormones used for in bones?
They are used for bone growth by stimulating Osteoblast.
What is Insulin used for in bones?
It is used for promoting normal bone growth by increasing the synthesis of proteins used for bone tissue.
What are sex hormones used for in bones?
They are used for promoting the sudden growth in the teenage years and shut down growth of the Ephysileal plate around 18-20 years old ending length growth in bone to stop but help contibute to bone remodling in adulthood by slowing bone resorption and increasing bone deposition.
What is Parathyroid hormone used for in bones (PTH)?
Promotes bone resorption by osteoclast, enhances recovery of calcium ions from urine and the formation of vitamin D.
What is Calcitonin used for in bones (CT)?
Inhibits bone resorption by Osteoclast.
What are the two main minerals stored and released by bone?
Calcium and Phosphorous
