Bones surface markings Flashcards
What are all the Depressions and Openings in the bones?
This includes things called Fissure, Foreman, Fossa, Sulcus, Meatus.
What are all the Processes in the bones that form Joints?
This includes things called Condyle, Facet, Head.
What are all the projections in the bones that form attachment points for connective tissues?
This includes things called Crest, Epicondyle, Line, Spinuos Process, Trochanter, Tubercle, Tuberosity.
What is a Fissure?
This is a type of Depression or opening, A narrow slit between adjacent parts of bones through which blood vessels or nerves pass through.
What is a Foramen?
This is a Opening through which blood vesicles, nerves or ligaments pass.
What is Fossa?
This is Shallow depression in a bone.
What is a Sulcus?
This is a Furrow along a bones surface that allows for blood vesicles, nerves or tendons.
What is a Meatus?
This is a Tubelike Opening.
What is a Condyle?
This is a Large, round protuberance with a smooth articular surface at the end of a bone.
What is a Facet?
Smooth, Flat, slightly concave or convex Articular surface.
What is a Head of a bone?
Usually rounded articular projection supported on the neck of the bone.
What is a Crest?
Prominent ridge or elongated projection.
What is a Epicondyle? (Epi=above)
Typically a roughened projection above a Condyle.
What is a Line?
Long, narrow ridge or border (less prominent than crest)
What is a Spinous process?
Sharp slender Projection (ex: Spinous process of Vertebra)
