What are Short bones?

A

These types of bones that are somewhat cube shaped.
They have Spongy bone and a thin layer of compact bone.
Examples of these bones are the Carpal and the Tarsal.

What are Flat bones?

A

These types of bones are Generally very flat with two layers of Compact bone.
They make for increased protection of the body and a greater surface area for Muscle attachment.

What are Irregular bones?

A

These types of bones have very differed amounts of spongy and compact bone in then and have irregular shapes.
Examples of these bones include Vertebra, hip bones facial bones and the Calcaneus.

What are Sasamoid bones?

A

These bones develop in certain tendons where there is considerably more friction, tension and physical stress.
they vary from person to person and are not always completely Ossified.
Genraly very tiny in the body an exeption is the Patella and they help the tendons from overuse and often changes the pull direction of the tendon increasing strength.

A

These types of bones are Small bones that are located within structures (Joints) between cranial bones.
The number of these bones vary from persons.

What are surface markings in bones?

A

These are Structural features that are adapted for specific functions.
Most are not present at birth but they develop under certain forces and they become much more prominent in the adult skeleton.
There are two major types of bone markings (Depressions) and (Openings) these allow for the passage of soft tissues or form (Joints).
