Bone fractures and Breaks Flashcards
What is a Stress Fracture?
This is a series of many microscopic fissures in a bone without any evidence to injury to other tissues.
What are common types of Fractures?
This would include Open, Comminuted, Greenstick, Impacted, Pott and Colles.
What is Colles Fracture
This is a fracture of the lateral bone of the forearm (Radius) at the distal end.
The distal fragment is displaced posteriorly.
What is a Pott fracture?
This is a fracture of the distal end of the fibula.
What is a Impacted Fracture?
One end of the fractured bone is forced into the end of the other.
What is a Greenstick fracture?
This is a partial fracture where one side of the bone is broken and the other side is still together.
What is a Comminuted fracture?
This is when at the site of breaking bone is crushed and a smaller portion of bone is inside the area.
What is a open fracture?
This is when the broken ends of the bone protrude through the skin.
