Bone Blood and Nerve Supply Flashcards
What is a Periosteal Artery?
This is a set of Small Arteries accompanied by nerves that enter the Diaphysis through many Canals and supply the Periosteum and outer part of the Compact Bone.
What is a Nutrient Artery and where is it located?
This is artery that passes the compact bone through something called a Nutrient Forman along with the Vein.
When the artery enters the Medullary cavity it splits into Proximal and Distal portions and supplies the inner and outer compact bone and the spongy bone up as far as the Hyaline cartilage(Epiphyseal Plate).
What is the Metaphsyeal Artery?
These are arteries that help supply the red bone marrow of the Metaphysis along with the nutrient Artery?
What is the Epiphyseal Artery?
These arteries help supply the red bone marrow of the Epiphysis ends of the bone past the Epiphyseal line.
Why do bone Fractures, tearing and Marrow Biopsy’s Hurt?
This is because the Periosteum that surrounds the Compact bone is filled with sensory nervous tissue.
So this area is extremely sensitive to ay type of tissue damage.
