heart block Flashcards
1st degree
slow conduction in the AV node results in incomplete heart block, PR interval is extended (>0.2)
mobitz type 1
progressive lengthening of the PR interval
mobitz type II
normal PR, ventricular contraction only initiated every 2nd or 3rd atrial contraction
3rd degree
complete heart block - no impulses conducted through the affected area- can results from ischemic damage to bundle of His or nodal tissue
what is the relationship between QRS and P waves in 3rd degree
the two are independent
what is teh HR like in 3rd degree
in the absence of signals from SAN the AVN can generate a HR of about 40bpm
CF 3rd degree
difficult to exercise as the heart cannot sustain higher rates - dizzy spells eg syncope
treatment of 3rd degree
atropine or ventricular pacing
how does supraventicular tachycardia present
episodic sudden onset of very a fast pulse rate, and a fluttering sensation within chest. Pulse at the time can be greater than 200 beats per minute. Each episode lasts typically for few minutes and then reverts spontaneously. 24 hour tape recording normal.
