Piedmont
A gentle slope leading from the base of mountains to a region of flat land
Fall Line
The imaginary line between two parallel rivers, at the point where rivers plunge, or fall, at roughly the same elevation
Basin
A depression, or dip, in the Earth’s surface. They are shaped like bowls, with sides higher than the bottom
Contiguous
Sharing a common border
Seaboard
The line where land and sea meet
Plantation
The production of one or more usually cash crops on a large swathe of land
Edge City
A type of city that has arisen very recently in a comparatively short space of time, (or) a rural area outside of a city
Ghetto
A part of a city in which members of a minority group are concentrated, especially as a result of political, social, legal, religious, environmental or economic pressure
Textile
Material made from weaved fiber or yarn
Granite
An igneous rock composed of mostly two minerals: quartz and feldspar
Peninsula
A piece of land that is almost entirely surrounded by water but is connected to the mainland on one side.
Moraine
Material left behind by a moving glacier. This material is usually soil and rock
Second-growth forest
Forest trees that come up naturally after removal of the first growth by cutting or by fire
Borough
A town, or a district within a large city, which has its own council, government, or local services; A town that has its own government
Bayou
A slow-moving creek or a swampy section of a river or a lake
