Mechanism of Action (MOA)?
Verapamil HCl
Mechanism of Action (MOA):
- Decreases SA and AV conduction
- Dilates coronary and peripheral/arterioles
Verapamil HCl
Indications?
Verapamil HCl Indications:
- Supraventricular tachycardia (SVT)
- Atrial fibrillation and atrial flutter with rapid ventricular response (RVR)
Verapamil HCl
Contraindications?
Verapamil HCl Contraindications:
- AV block
- Shock
- Wide complex tachycardia
- Wolff-Parkinson-White (WPW) syndrome
- Sick sinus syndrome
- Severe CHF
- Hypotension (less than 90 mmHg systolic)

Adverse Reactions?
Verapamil HCl Adverse Reactions:
- Extreme bradycardia
- Asystole
- AV block
- Hypotension
- CHF

Adult Dose?
Verapamil HCl Adult Dose:
- 2.5 - 5 mg slow IV push over 2 - 3 minutes. May repeat in 15 - 30 minutes with a 5 - 10 mg slow IV push until a maximum dose of 30 mg

- Not used in children prehospital
