Mechanism of Action (MOA)?
Calcium Chloride
Mechanism of Action (MOA):
- Increase extracellular and intracellular calcium levels
- Increase cardiac contractility (positive inotropic effect)
- May enhance ventricular automaticity
Calcium Chloride
Indications?
Calcium Chloride Indications:
- Calcium channel blocker OD
- Hypocalcemia, hyperkalemia, hypermagnesemia
- Pretreatment for IV calcium channel blocker administration

Contraindications?
Calcium Chloride Contraindications:
- Digoxin therapy (relative)

Adverse Reactions?
Calcium Chloride Adverse Reactions:
- Brady-asystolic arrest
- Tissue necrosis with extravasation
Calcium Chloride
Adult Dose?
Calcium Chloride Adult Dose:
- Hypocalcemia, calcium channel blocker OD, hyperkalemia, and hypermagnesemia: 5 - 10 ml (0.5 - 1 Gm) of 10% calcium chloride. May repeat in 10 minutes.
- Pre-treatment for IV calcium channel blocker administration: 3 ml of 10% calcium chloride. May repeat once.

Calcium Chloride Pediatric Dose:
- Hypercalcemia, calcium channel blocker OD, hyperkalemia and hypermagnesemia: 0.2 - 0.25 ml/kg of a 10% solution infused slowly. Should not be repeated without documented calcium deficiency.
