Mechanism of Action (MOA)?
A
Ketamine HCl MOA:
- Rapid acting in producing a “dissociative” anesthesia in which the patient’s consciousness is detached from their nervous system
- Potent analgesia
- Bronchodilation with minimal to no respiratory depression

Indications?
A
Ketamine HCl Indications:
- Pre-anesthetic (induction agent) for rapid sequence induction/intubation (RSI)
- Pre-anesthetic for critical asthma patients needing aggressive bronchodilation and possible intubation

Contraindications?
A
Ketamine HCl Contraindications:
- Angina
- CHF
- Symptomatic hyperthyroidism
- Pregnancy

Adverse Reactions?
A
Ketamine HCl Adverse Reactions:
- Emergence reaction in approximately 12% of patients may occur near end of medication half-life

Adult Dose?
A
Ketamine HCl Adult Dose:
- 15 years of age and older
- IV/IO: 0.5 - 2 mg/kg over 1 minute. Half-life of 5 - 10 minutes
- IM: 2 - 4 mg/kg. Half-life of 12 - 25 minutes
