Functional Outcome Measures Flashcards
DGI
Dynamic Gait Index (DGI)
* Objectively measure a patient’s balance and postural control, specifically during gait activities.
* Includes 8 items that are scored on a 4-point scale (0-3), with lower scores indicating greater impairment.
- Gait with pivot turns. The patient is instructed to start walking at a normal pace and then turn and face the opposite direction as fast as possible when the examiner gives the command.
*Stepping over obstacles. The patient is instructed to walk at a normal pace towards an obstacle (e.g., shoebox) and to step over that obstacle once they reach it.
- Walking around multiple obstacles (i.e., weaving in and out).
*Navigating stairs. The patient is instructed to walk up and down a set of stairs as they normally would, using the railing if necessary.
- Does not involve an assessment of ambulating backwards. However, this is an item included on the more challenging Functional Gait Assessment.
PAR-Q & You
(Physical Activity Readiness Questionnaire)
- 15-69 y/o that are planning on becoming physically active more than they ar.
- 7 Y/N questions related to current health and functional status.
- Yes to 1 or more question means the person should talk to their doctor prior to becoming more physically active.
GMFM
Gross Motor Function Measure is a standardized observational instrument designed and validated to measure change in gross motor function over time in children with cerebral palsy
Berg Balance Test
- Assess risk of falling
- scored on 0-4 rating scale (out of 52)
- 16 functional tasks
When assessing balance, somatosensory input is most responsive to changes in:
surface contact
relative orientation and movement of the body in relation to a supporting surface.
Cut off score for high risk of falling with TUG?
over 30 seconds to complete the test are considered a high fall risk.
Patients who require over 20 seconds are considered to have an increased fall risk and are at the limit for functional independence.
A patient is considered independent if they complete the test in 10 seconds or less
Fugl-Meyer sensorimotor assessment of balance
- sensorimotor assessment of balance performance battery consists of
- 7 items assessed with a score ranging from 0-2 on each item.
- 0 = patient cannot perform a task
- 2 = patient can successfully perform the task.
- maximum score on the assessment is 14.
