Feedback Flashcards

1
Q

What is knowledge of results?

A

KoR is based on the result or outcome of the movement.
KoR is often based on extrinsic/external, and often given by a teacher or coach.
Very little learning occurs in the early stages without this type of feedback.

Q

What is knowledge of performance?

A

KoP feedback is about the quality of movement pattern or action.
Intrinsic and arises from kinaesthetic awareness (how the movement feels).
Can be extrinsic - teacher or coach can give feedback on your technique

Q

what is intrinsic feedback?

A

Direct feedback from the internal proprioceptors or from the sensory system
Known as kinaesthesis

Q

What are the Pros and cons of intrinsic feedback?

A

Pros -
Feedback during the performance of a movement
Quick
Helps error correction
Autonomous learners can correct own performance

Cons -
May not lead to accurate interpretation (especially in cognitive stage)
Some performers are better than others at using feedback

Q

What is extrinsic feedback?

A

From a source external to the performer

It is used to enhance (work with) intrinsic feedback.

Q

What are the pros and cons of extrinsic feedback?

A

pros -
Lead to short-term motivation
Good for cognitive learners
Helps with individual sub-routines

Cons -
Reliant on knowledge of coach
Does not lead to long term motivation
Inaccurate feedback will hinder performance
Does not encourage kinaesthesis

Q

What is positive feedback? pros cons?

A

pros -
often extrinsic and rewards the performer - via praise
Good for reinforcement and strengthens S-R bond
Very motivating for cognitive learners (confidence)

Cons -
If undeserved, it can lead to incorrect S-R bond formation
Some performers/ personality types do not respond well to praise

Q

what is negative feedback?

A

pros -
Occurs when the performance is incorrect.
Can improve motivation
Can give clarity on areas for improvement
More suited to autonomous learners

cons -
Can lead to demotivation
Can be detrimental to the learning process (cognitive learner)

Q

How do you give effective feedback?

A

LIMIT THE INFORMATION
IMMEDIATE
RELATE IT TO THE INDIVIDUAL
ENCOURAGE KINAESTHESIS

Q

why do we use feedback?

A

To detect errors in performance
To make improvements or adjustments
Reinforce learning
To aid motivation

Q

what type of feedback is best at what phase of learning?

A

at cognitive stage extrinsic feedback is best
at associative phase extrinsic feedback is best

Q

what is terminal feedback?

what is concurrent feedback?

A

Terminal feedback is experienced by the performer once the movement has been completed.

concurrent feedback is when the performer gives feedback to themselves as they are preforming a movement from how it feels.
