Exam 3 Review Flashcards
Write the Equation for Photosynthesis
6CO2 + 6H2O + light = C6H12O6 + 6O2 + ATP
In which part of the plant does the light reaction and calvin cycle occur
chlorophyll
in which part of the plant is gluclose made
stroma
Where does the O2 come from during photosynthesis
H2O
What are the end products of light reactions
O2 + NADPH + ATP
What products of light reactions are used in the calvin cycle
NADPH & ATP
In terms of light, what does it mean when you see a blue color
it abosorbs all the other waves and reflects blue
What is rubisco and what is its role in the calvin cycle
enzyme needed for carbon fixation in the calvin cycle
What is the primary goal for each step in cellular respiratoin
1-3: make NADH and FADH to be used in step 4
4: Make ATP
How many ATPs are produced in each step? What is the total
Glycolosis: net of 2
Pyruvte oxidization (Ac CoA): 0
Krebs: 2
Oxidative Phosphorylation: 28
What are NADH and FADH2? What are their purposes?
Electron carriers; carry electrons for energy supply for ATP synthase
How many NADH and FADH2 are made in each step
Glycolosis: 2 NADH
Pyruvte oxidization (Ac CoA): 2 NADH
Krebs: 6 NADH + 2 FADH2
Oxidative Phosphorylation: 0
Name the location where each step of cellular respiration occurs
Glycolosis: Cytoplasm
Pyruvte oxidization (Ac CoA): Mito Matrix
Krebs: Mito Matrix
Oxidative Phosphorylation: Mito Inner membrane
What is the electron transport chain and chemiosmosis? What is ATP Synthase?
ETC creates a high gradient of H+(Protons) which prompt enzymes for ATP Synthase in a process called chemiosmosis where it pumps the H+ back into the mito space creating ATP
ATP Synthase: ATP creation through spinning of H+
What is fermentation? What are teh 2 types and examples
Anaerobic process to make ATP
Alcoholic Fermentation= 2 Ethonol + 2 CO2 + 2ATP (Yeast)
Lactic Acid Fermentation= 2 Lactates + 2 ATP (animal muscles)
