EVOLUTIONS 8 - RELAY WATER
PUMPERS EQUIPPED WITH PRO PRESSURE GOVENORS: OPERATION

The ________ or _______ of the operating pumper (normally 1 st due pumper), upon finding no viable water source transmits signal 10-70 via Department radio and HT and decides on optimum position of the pumper,

A

OFFICER OR THE ECC

The Officer or ECC of the operating pumper (normally 1 st due pumper), upon finding no viable water source transmits signal 10-70 via Department radio and HT and decides on optimum position of the pumper,

EVOLUTIONS 8 - RELAY WATER
PUMPERS EQUIPPED WITH PRO PRESSURE GOVENORS: OPERATION

What size connection should the supply pumper use in water relay operations?

A

If water relay is necessary, the 10’ or 35’ hydrant connection is connected from a hydrant to the Supply Pumper.

EVOLUTIONS 8 - RELAY WATER
PUMPERS EQUIPPED WITH PRO PRESSURE GOVENORS: OPERATION

Both the supply pumper and operating pumper remain in the VOLUME position, except when?

A

At Standpipe operations where head pressure needs to be overcome, the Supply Pumper remains in the Volume position and the operating pumper must be in the Pressure position.

EVOLUTIONS 8 - RELAY WATER
PUMPERS EQUIPPED WITH PRO PRESSURE GOVENORS: OPERATION

Relay water evolution:

A
  • Supply Pumper ECC opens the hydrant fully, engages the pumps, primes, and then sets the reading on the Pro-Pressure Governor to match the idle pressure shown on the Pump Pressure Gauge.
  • Supply Pumper ECC tells Operating Pumper ECC they are ready to send water, then upon confirmation, opens 3” discharge gate fully
  • Operating Pumpers ECC leaves the gated inlet closed while opening the drain to the gated inlet, When good water flow is observed flowing through the drain, close drain
  • Operating Pumper ECC slowly opens 3” inlet gate fully note Intake Pressure gauge reading (read aprx 100–125 psi) primes and note Pump Pressure Gauge ( 50-60 psi greater than the Intake gauge)
  • Operating Pumper ECC then sets the reading on the Pro Pressure Governor to match the idle pressure on the pump pressure gauge and begins fire line operations.

EVOLUTIONS 8 - RELAY WATER
PUMPERS EQUIPPED WITH PRO PRESSURE GOVENORS: OPERATION

If the ECC of the operating pumper has already supplied water to handlines via booster tank prior to being relayed water, what must he do to accommodate the increasing pressure?

A

If the ECC of the Operating Pumper has already started supplying a handline from booster tank water then open intake gate slowly while adjusting individual discharge gates to accommodate the increasing pressure.

EVOLUTIONS 8 - RELAY WATER
PUMPERS EQUIPPED WITH PRO PRESSURE GOVENORS: OPERATION

If the Intake pressure gauge reading does drop below 15 psi on the Operating Pumper, then the ECC of the Operating pumper should? .

A

If the Intake pressure gauge reading does drop below 15 psi on the Operating Pumper, then the ECC of the Operating pumper should request the Supply Pumper to increase throttle (tap-up pro-pressure governor) in 10 psi increments as needed.

If the Supply Pumper’s Intake pressure gauge drops below 15 psi, the Supply Pumper ECC should?

A

If the Supply Pumper’s Intake pressure gauge drops below 15 psi, the Supply Pumper ECC should contact the Operating Pumper ECC and the Incident Commander and inform them that the hydrants supply limit has been reached.
