John Dudley
Died 1553
Soldier, sailor and statesman.
Feared and envied, dominated 2nd half of Ed VI’s reign.
Lord Lieutenant of army under Somerset, his forces ravaged the lowlands of Scotland and burned out Edinburgh and in 1547 had defeated the Scots at Pinkie.
President of Council of Wales, he had heavily recruited for the army for the wars vs France and Scotland.
He had also taken over the suppression of Kett’s Rebellion.
