A
A calcium channel blocker that inhabits calcium ion influx across cardiac and smooth muscle cells, decreasing myocardium contractility and oxygen demand

A
Rapid A-Fib or A-Flutter

Contraindications
A
Sick sinus syndrome or 2nd or 3rd degree AV block in the absence of an artificial pacemaker; Systolic BP below 90; WPW or patients with ventricular tachycardia

Administration
A
0.25 mg/kg slow IV. if no response 0.35 mg/kg IV after 15 minutes

Side Effects and Special Notes
A
Headache, dizziness; Arrhythmias, bradycardias, heart failure, AV blocks, abnormal ECG; Hypotension, flushing; Nausea, constipation, abdominal discomfort
