What is dietary fibre also know as
Know as non-starch polysaccharides. (NSP)
What does fibre help
Maintain a healthy digestive system but is not digested in the body it just passes through.
Two types if fibre
Soluble and insoluble fibre, have both in the diet
Soluble fibre
Dissolves in water
Examples of soluble fibre
Oats peas apples citrus fruits carrots
Insoluble fibre
Doesn’t dissolve in fibre
Examples of insoluble fibre
whole grains, nuts, seeds, and Vegetables
What is too little fibre a result from
Eating too much refined foods like white bread instead of wholegrain and a general lack of fruit and vegetables in the diet

What does fibre prevent
Constipation, reducing the risk of chronic diseases.
What does soluble fibre help with?
lower blood cholesterol levels and may help
regulate blood sugar levels, so helping prevent type 2 diabetes.
What does insoluble fibre help?
adds bulk to the stool, keeping bowels healthy and
preventing constipation. It helps prevent cancers such as colon cancer.
