A

What is cognitive dissonance?
A
- Psychological discomfort which is aroused when people are comforted with conflicting idea, beliefs or valves
- Individuals have a motivational drive to reduce dissonance so individuals may adapt their ideas, beliefs, values and subsequent behaviour to reduce the dissonance

What is burnout?
A
- Emotional, mental and physical exhaustion
- Most likely excessive and prolonged stress – exhaustion, lack of enthusiasm and motivation – leading to lack of empathy and poor performance
- Increased levels in with high workload, low staffing levels, long shifts and low control
- Tested by Haringey council and Mid stafforshire national NHS foundation trust inquiry

- Identify with group

- Avoid criticism and being ignored
- Behave in manner perceived as ‘right’
- Avoid feeling inferior

What are the three grouping of the national servive framework?
A
- Entering old age (retirement) – active and independent
- Transitional phase (70s and 80s) – between active life and frailty – avoid crisis and reduce long-term dependency
- Frail old people (over 90s) – venerable group recognising complex interaction of physical, mental and social care factors to improve quality life
