Blood supply to the brain Flashcards
1
Q
What are the four arteries supplying blood in the brain?
A
Two pairs
1. Internal carotid – base of your brain
2. Vertebral (branch of subclavian and transverse foramina) – servical has loops of bones to protect
2
Q
What is transverse foramina?
A
Spaces between loops of bone where vertebral arteries pass
3
Q
Whats the circle of willis?
A
- All blood vessels forming loops to supply all brain – blood can branch out
- Two vertebral arteries – hug brain stem and form basilar artery
- Two internal carotid arteries – base of brain and join circle of Willis
- COW provides astomosis
- Also made of two anteriorly cerebral arteries, two middle cerebral arteries and two posterior cerebral arteries
4
Q
What is astomosis?
A
Alternative routes for blood to flow
5
Q
What are the anterial cerebral arteries?
A
- Over frontal and parietal lobe
- In cerebral cortex
- Connects pieces of white matter between two hemispheres of brain
6
Q
What are posterial cerebral arteries?
A
- Supply blood to temperol lobe and occipital lobe
7
Q
What is the middle cerebral artery?
A
- Wider spread effect as temporal, frontal and parietal are being supplies
8
Q
State the three cerebral arteries?
A
anterial
posterial
