The Mini-Radiac detects what type of radiation?
Gamma radiation
What four different types of warning/alerts does the mini radiac have?
Digital LCD display, audible alarm, vibrating alarm, and blinking LED green lights
It will detect radiation in what range?
Normal background radiation (5-20 micro R/hr) all the way up to 999 R/hr
What features are built in to protect the mini radiac?
Waterproof, intrinsically safe, and designed to withstand an electromagnetic pulse
Mini radiacs are assigned to what?
To the fire station, one per position
Mini radiacs shall be attached to what?
PEK web belt
When shall mini radiacs be worn?
When department is in Homeland security advisory system threat level of “HIGH” (orange/level 4) or greater, and at such other times determined by the departments administration, the following policy shall be in effect: to be worn on all incidents when department is in Homeland security advisory system threat level of “SEVERE” (red/level 5) and at such other times determined by the departments administration the following policy shall be in effect mini radiacs shall be worn: on any incident when out of quarters, When away from apparatus and when in an enclosed space/building
What exceptions exist to the above rules?
Members are not required to wear while on FD property (FHMTC, CHE, etc.)
Mini radiacs May also be worn during diminished threat levels (less than ”HIGH”) at members discretion including where the increased possibility of a terrorist incident exist such as what?
Public events, target hazards, enclosed/confined space or complex structures
The mini radiac shall be worn on what types of incidents?
Any reported explosion Any incident where radiation is expected Any incident of suspicious nature Any B/T incident in which LAFD is assisting LAPD Any incident involving known radiation
The mini Radic shall be inspected for damage and total dosage reset to zero with what frequency?
Daily
When shall batteries be checked?
Weekly
