Defined by geographic boundaries (streets, freeways, RFS districts) where emergency activity takes place or is anticipated to occur

To manage multiple tactical areas, or oversee a very large incident
Who may establish an area command?
Any LAFD administrative division commander or by department command
What are the minimum resources needed to establish an area command?
1 task force, 1 EMS, 1 BC or 1 DC
What is a strike team?
5 engines, 1 battalion chief
What is a task force?
3 engines under the command of 1 Captain II
What are the four ways to receive incidents while operating in an area command?
MFC, still alarm, incidence found by Field resources surveying their districts, and if MFC is not operational, area command can send to members to LAPD division to obtain and relay 911 calls to area command
What is the key factor for MFC to operate in the tactical alert mode?
The identification of incident impact area by specific geographic boundaries
What information, at a minimum, will be included when MFC notifies a command post of an incident within their tactical area?
Incident number, time of alarm, and address
If dispatched by area command, what info share resources maintain a list of?
Addresses, incident numbers, and approximate arrival on scene time for any incident they are dispatched to
If the department is placed in phase 3 tactical alert, what radio channels will be used?
All LAFD channels and six mutual aid frequencies
How should the mutual aid frequencies be used?
In direct, unless in a mutual aid situation
When it becomes necessary for MFC to communicate with an area command or for comms between different area commands, what channel shall be used?
Channel 11 (Command channel)
