Cultivation of Viruses Flashcards
Played a vital role in virology because it provides sufficient gravitational force to efficiently sediment even the smallest viruses
Ultracentrifuge
Rate Zonal Centrifugation
Sample is layered as a narrow zone on the top of a density gradient, under centrifugal force, particles move at different rates depending on mass
Buoyant Density
Object has exactly the same density as the fluid, remains submerged in the fluid but will neither sink or float
Isopycnic Point
Point where the buoyant density of a particle equals that of the surrounding density gradient medium
Isopycnic Centrifugation
Particles are separated solely on the basis of their buoyant density, the particles will never sediment to the bottom of the tube, no matter how long the centrifugation time
Membrane Chromatography
