IgE-mediated
Non-IgE-mediated
What is the pathophysiology of IgE-mediated CMPA?
Type 1 hypersensitivity reaction
CD4+ TH2 cells stimulate B cells to produce IgE antibodies
What is the pathophysiology of non-IgE-mediated CMPA?
T cell activation against CMPA
What are risk factors for developing CMPA?
Personal Hx of atopy
Family Hx of atopy
What are symptoms of IgE CMPA?
Acute onset Pruritus/erythema Urticaria Vomiting + diarrhoea Colicky pain Cough
How is CMPA diagnosed?
Usually clinical diagnosis
Can use a IgE antibody blood test
How is CMPA managed?
Eliminate cows milk from diet
- including breast feeding mother’s diet
Use hydrolysed milk
What age are most cases of CMPA resolved?
12 months
What are features if non-IgE CMPA?
Delayed onset Pruritus/erythema GORD Loose stools Constipation Perianal redness Cough
