Coronary Circulation Flashcards
How many cusps does the aortic valve have?
3 cusps
What are the branches supplying the heart?
Left and right coronary arteries
Describe the location and route of the right coronary artery
Arises from right aortic sinus
First supplies upper RA
Then runs downward in atrioventricular groove giving off branches to RV (posterior descending + marginal)
Passes along underside of the heart
Terminal branch is right interventricular artery
Describe the route of the left coronary artery and the areas it supplies
Arises behind pulmonary trunk from left aortic sinus
Divides into many branches into LV:
- circumflex branch runs onto underside of heart in left
atrioventricular groove sending further branches to LV - longest is left iv (or L. anterior descending)
What is the coronary sinus ?
The great, middle and small cardiac veins converging into one vein that opens into RA (just below and in front of IVC)
What is the difference in texture between veins and arteries?
Arteries thicker more muscular
Veins thinner and wider lumen
