Core Flashcards
best core exercise for beginner
prone-iso ab
Local muscles (def).
core muscles that attach on/near vertebrae. have short attachments ranging between 1-2 vertebrae segments. provide dynamic control of spinal segments limiting excessive rotation. stabilizes vertebra; limits strain on discs & ligaments
Global muscles (def).
Muscles are positioned more superficial on the trunk than the local muscles (above). act to move the trunk, and transfer loads between the upper/lower extremities of the core. provides stability to the spine. responsible for concentric & eccentric movements during dynamic exercise.
Local muscles
Rotatores, Multifidus, Transverse abdominis, Diaphragm, Pelvic floor musculature, Quadratus lumborum
Global muscles
Rectus abdominis, External obliques, latissimus dorsi, gluteus maximus, hip flexors, iliopsosas, extrinsic erector spinae,
Superficial muscle of the core
erector spinae
