Describe Vealey’s model of confidence
It begins with an objective sports situation.
That is first affected by your trait (inherited) sports confidence and competitive orientation (NACH/NAF). In addition, there state sports confidence will affect their overall confidence with the objective situation. This will result in the performance and a subjective outcome. This subjective outcome will have an effect on your trait sports confidence and competitive orientation for future performances.
What are strategies that could improve confidence
-set realistic and challenging goals
-encouragement
-attribute success internally
-set performce/process goals
-avoid outcome goals
-mental practice
-avoid social comparison
-attainable role models
- 1to1 coaching
Define self efficacy
A belief you can master any specific sporting situation
Name and define the factors affecting self efficacy
Performance accomplishments- the effect of high level past performances has on self efficacy
Vicarious experiences- how you mentally prepare before a sporting situation by relating to OTHERS in similar situations
Verbal persuasion- persuasion from external factors like reinforcement
Emotional control/arousal- arousal needs to be at optimum level to maximise confidence
