What are the different types of leaders and describe them each?
Prescribed leader- appointed from outside the group
Emergent leader- appointed from within the group
What are the different types of leadership styles and define each one?
Autocratic/task-oriented style-the leader makes all decsisions and dictates instructions of the group
Democratic/person oriented style-the leader seeks opinion of the group before making decisions. The leader is involved in interpersonal relationships with members
Laissez-faire style- the leader does very little and leaves group to complete task. The leader is focused on group developing by solving problems and motivating themselves.
What does Fielder’s contingency model suggest?
In most and least favourable situations, an autocratic style of leadership should be used.
In a moderately favourable situation, a democratic style of leadership should be used.
Give features of most,moderately and least favourable situations.
Most:
-leader has respect
-there is good support within the group
-there are high levels of motivation
-the group is high ability
Moderately:
-there is a need for consultation within the group
-motivation is moderate
-there is limited support

-Type of task (solo vs team sport)

Required behaviour- the leadership style that the situation requires.
Actual behaviour- the leadership style that the leader actually carries out
Preferred bahviour- the leadership style that the group want/prefer.
Give a brief description of Chelladurai’s multidimensional model of leadership?
The required behaviour of the situation and the preferred behaviour of the group will both have an effect on the leader’s actual behaviour.
Congruence in the behaviours will lead to group satisfaction and group success.
Dissonance may not lead to group satisfaction and success.
What are the two outcomes in Chelladurai’s model?
