Concrete Reinforcement Flashcards
reinforcement has two types for cast in place:
deformed bars
welded wire mesh
Deformed Bars sizes
⅜” - 2 ¼”Ø
⅛” increments up to 1 ⅜”
two special sizes 1 ¾” & 2 ¼”
Deformed Bars designations represent:
# of ⅛” increments ex. no.6 = 6/8” or ¾”
Bars are deformed to:
provide mechanical interlocking
along with mechanical interlocking, some bonding is provided through
chemical adhesion
rebar grades refer to:
yield strength / tensile strength
yield strength is measured in
kips per sq in.
most common rebar grades
40 + 60
along with 40 and 60, these grades are sometimes avaliabel
50 + 75
comparitivly, wire for prestressing has much higher tensile strength of
250-270 kips/sqin
most common steel classifications used for rebar
axle/rail/billet (most common)
Purpose of:
Min clr steel and exposed face of concrete
protect reinforcing
Purpose of:
Min clr steel and steel
allow coarse aggregate pass thru
Purpose of:
Rebar coated w epoxy or galvanized
protect from corrosive (chlorides) in seawater or deicing salts
Welded Wire Fabric is used for
for temperature reinforcement in slabs
Welded Wire Fabric uses
cold-drawn steel wires
square pattern @ 4/6”
Welded Wire Fabric system of designation:
size (in) x gauge (cross sectional area in 1/100th of sqin)
ex. 6 X 6—W1.4 X 1.4
Welded Wire Fabric:
W and D in designation =
W=smooth wire
D=deformed wire
other accessories that may need to be placed before pour
welding plates.
electrical boxes/conduit.
sleeves for pipes.
used to secure placement of reinforcement until poured, in walls:
spacers
