Circulatory Edema Flashcards
What is the definition of Edema ?
Excessive accumulation of fluid in the interstitial tissue spaces &/or body cavities
accumulation of fluid in peritoneal cavity is ?
Ascitis
accumulation of fluid in pleural cavity is ?
Hydrothorax or Pleural effusion
accumulation of fluid in pericardial cavity ?
Hydropericardium or Pericardial effusion
Wnat is mean Anasarca ?
severe generalized edema with marked subcutaneous tissue swelling.
What is the CAUSES of EDEMA ?
1- Increased capillary hydrostatic pressure
2- Decrease colloid osmotic pressure of the plasma
3- Increased Capillary Permeability
Increased capillary hydrostatic pressure it Occurs in cases of ?
venous congestion
Decrease colloid osmotic pressure of the plasmis ?
generalized edema
Decrease colloid osmotic pressure of the plasma it Occurs due to ?
hypoproteinemia
Increased Capillary Permeability as in ?
inflammation
Sodium and water retention occurs in ?
1- renal diseases
2- congestive heart failure
What is the examples of Lymphatic Obstruction ?
1- Lymphangitis and lymphadenitis. 2- Filariasis 3- Postirradiation fibrosis 4- Lymphatic permeation 5- Surgical removal of lymph nodes
What is The differences between Transudate and Exudate
Transudate :
1- Fluid of edema
2- Low protein content: below 1 gm/dl
3- Does not clot (no fibrinogen)
Exudate :
1- Fluid of inflammation
2- High protein content: above 3 gm/ dl
3- Clots on standing (rich in fibrinogen)
Give examples of Edema due to Localized Venous Obstruction .
1- Ascites
2- Lung edema due to left sided heart failure
3- Pressure on a large vein
4- Obstruction of large vein by thrombus
Lung edema is due to ?
left sided heart failure
