Chapter 8.2 DNA Flashcards
What is helicase?
Breaks hydrogen bonds between base pairs.
What does primase do?
It adds DNA primer.
What is DNA polymerase III?
Add new nucleotides to build new DNA strands.
DNA Polymerase I?
Removes RNA primer and replaces it with complementary bases.
What is ligase?
Repairs Okazaki fragments.
What is the order of replication?
Helicase, Primase, DNA polymerase III, DNA Polymerase I, Ligase.
The leading strands are?
Continous.
The lagging strands are?
Semi-discontinuous.
What does semi-discontinue mean?
Has to constantly stop and start again.
What is semi-conservative replication?
Each of the two daughter molecules will have one old strand from the parental molecule and one newly made strand.
What are Okazaki fragments?
Breaks in the newly added DNA.
