Chapter 4.2 Flashcards
What are the three cycles?
Nitrogen, Carbon, and Phosphorus.
Steps for the nitrogen cycle.
Nitrogen fixation, Nutrifictation, denitrification.
Define nitrogen fixation.
Fixing the nitrogen for plant use.
Define nutrification.
Converts ammonium to nitrate and nitrite.
Define dentifrication.
Converts nitrites/nitrates back into atmospheric nitrogen.
Energy vs. carbon in a food chain.
Energy gets released back into the atmosphere and carbon continues goes through the cycle.
What is the equation for photosynthesis?
sunlight + C02 + H20 -> 02 + glucose
What is the equation for cellular respiration?
glucose + C02 -> energy + C02 + H20
What type of organisms go through cellular respiration?
Plants, bacteria, fungi, etc.
