Chapter 2.3 Flashcards
What are some population growth factors?
Sex ratio
Generation Time
Age Structure
What is sex ratio?
of F vs. M
Define generation Time.
Age females reproduce
What is age Structure?
of females at reproductive stage at cohort
How many stages of demographic transition are there?
5 stages
What is stage 1?
Birth rate - High
Death rate- high
NI - Stable/slow increase
Stage 2
BR - high
DR - falls rapidly
NI- rapid increase
Stage 3
BR - Falling
DR - falls slowly
NI - increase slows down
Stage 4
BR - Low
DR - low
NI - falling then stable
Stage 5
BR - Yet to be seen
DR - low
NI - little change
How does age Structure affect population growth?
When there are more younger children, the population increases because they are going to fire up and reproduce. If there are more adults over the reproductive age, and less young children, then the population will decrease.
Developed countries vs. Developing countries
Developed countries - More stable population growth, higher life expectancy, less infant deaths, and higher literacy rate.
Developing countries - Higher population growth, lower life expectancy, more infant deaths, and lower literacy rates.
