Chapter 7.2 Enzymes Flashcards
Properties of Enzymes.
Reaction Specific.
Each enzyme = specific substance
Properties of Enzymes.
Not consumed in reaction.
Single enzyme = lots of reactions
Properties of Enzymes.
Made up of proteins (sometimes RNA).
Properties of Enzymes.
Affected by cellular conditions.
Define Enzymes.
Proteins that act as catalysts.
Define substrates.
reactant which bonds to enzymes.
Define active sites.
Where substrate fits into enzymes
Define Activation sites.
The minimum energy required for a reaction to occur.
What is the relationship between reaction rate and substance concentration?
More substrate = more collision
What is the relationship between reaction rate and enzyme concentration?
Increase in number of collisions. Levels off because it runs out of things to collide with.
What is the relationship between reaction rate and temperature?
Increases collision, makes it to the max “level”, then decreases because of denaturation.
What is the relationship between reaction rate and pH levels?
The lower on the scale = the more acidic. This is denaturation.
