Define an aeroplane
A power driven heavier than air aircraft, deriving its lift mainly from aerodynamic reactions on surfaces which remain fixed
Define an aircraft
Any machine that can derive support in the atmosphere from the reactions of the air other than the reactions of the air against the aircraft
What is the state of design?
The state having jurisdiction over the organisation responsible for the design

A nationality and a registration mark

Historic, military and test aircraft

Letters, numbers or a combination of both
Who assigns the registration mark?
The state of registration or the common mark registration authority

International telecommunications union (ITU) and ICAO is notified

- PAN

What aircraft require a common mark?
When the aircraft is operated by an international agency
When must the certificate of registration be carried?
At all times
What must the CofR contain?
- nationality or common mark
- registration mark
- manufacturers designation of aircraft
- serial number
- name and address of owner
- a certificate that it has been entered into the state
- dated signature
What are the regulations surrounding the registration mark paint?
- clean and visible
- on the left half of the underside of the wing (minimum 50cm high)
- on the fuselage between wing and tail or on the upper half of the fin (minimum 30cm high)
