Chapter 16 Aerodromes Flashcards
What are the 4 types of aerodromes?
- public
- private licensed
- private unlicensed
- government
What is an airfield?
A grass strip
What is required at a controlled aerodrome?
A control tower which has a visual room and provides atc service
What is an aeronautical part?
The portion of an aerodrome which isn’t accessible without security control (i.e. airside)
What is element 1 of an aerodrome reference code?
Aeroplane reference field length (number up to 4)
What is element 2 of the aerodrome reference code?
Aeroplane wingspan and outer main gear wheel (a letter between A-F)
What letter is used to indicate the aircraft has a wingspan of 65m to 79m?
F
Where is the ARP usually?
The centre of the longest rwy
What will normally serve as a suit an altimeter check location?
The entire apron
What pavements require an ACN and a PCN?
Aircraft over mass of 5700kg
When is a pavement safe to use?
PCN is greater or equal to ACN
How is the PCN calculated for ac less than 5700kg?
- the max allowable mass
- the max tyre pressure
When are the 4 declared distances all equal tot the length of the rwy?
- no stopway or clearway
- no displaced threshold
What are the three defined states of frozen water on a rwy?
Snow, slush and ice
In which chapter of annex 14 can you find info on rwy width?
Chapter 3 - physical characteristics
Define a rwy strip
An area including the rwy and stopway where obstacles are kept to a minimum (only visual aids allowed)
What is the purpose of the rwy strip?
To protect the aircraft from damage during takeoff, landing and runway excursions
What is the only fixed objects allowed in the rwy strip?
PAPIs
What is not allowed on the rwy strip during takeoffs and landings?
Mobile objects
What is a RESA?
Area to protect aircraft during overshoots and undershoots the rwy
What are the required dimensions of the RESA?
At least twice the width of the rwy and extend from the rwy by at least 90m
What are the required dimensions of the radio altimeter operating area?
Extend from threshold by at least 300m and 60m each side of the centreline
For rapid exit taxiways what is the required angle?
Not more than 45 degrees and not less than 25 degrees (preferably 30 degrees)
What is the purpose of rapid exit taxiways?
Enable lower rwy occupancy times
As you turn a corner on a taxiway what must you follow?
The cockpit follows the centreline
When are holding bays provided?
When traffic density is medium or heavy
What/is the purpose of an isolated parking space for?
Aircraft that have been hijacked
Where should an isolated parking space be located?
100m from any other parking area, building or public area
