Chapter 14 Separation Flashcards
What are the three components of separation?
Vertical, horizontal and composite
What is essential traffic?
Controlled traffic to which atc separation is applicable but to which in relation to another controlled flight, is not or will not be separated by the required minimum
What is the non RVSM separation?
At and Below 290 = 1000ft
Above 290 = 2000ft
What is the RVSM separation?
410 and below = 1000ft
Above 410 = 2000ft
During severe turbulence what is done in terms of allocation of FLs?
Will be witheld until aircraft has been separated by the required minimum
When is it allowed to maintain your own traffic clearance?
- requested by pilot
- approved by 2nd pilot
- class d and e airspace only *****
- vmc
- day
- below 10000ft
- alternative instructions given
What are the two sections of horizontal separation?
Lateral and longitudinal
What is lateral separation required on a VOR?
Track divergence of 15 degrees at 15nm
What is lateral separation required on a NDB?
Track divergence of 30 degrees at 15nm
What is lateral separation required on a GNSS?
15nm below FL190 and 23nm above FL200
What does standard separation mean?
Minimum
What is the standard longitudinal separation on the same track?
15mins
- Can be reduced to 10mins when sufficient Navaids)
- can be reduced to 5 mins if ac ahead is 20kts faster
- can be reduced to 3 mins if ac ahead is 40kts faster
What is the standard crossing track separation?
15 mins = standard
10 mins = with sufficient navaids
What is the standard climb/descent separation?
15mins
- Can be reduced to 10mins with sufficient navaids
- can be reduced to 5 mins near reporting point
What is the climb/descent separation on reciprocal tracks?
20mins after they have passed each other
