When must a transponder be on?
Whenever you have one

Groups of 4 numbers (between 0-7)

Mode and code
When can you squawk ident?
On ATC instructions

What is squawk for comms failure?
A/7600
What is the squawk for unlawful interference?
A/7500
What is the squawk in absence of ATC instructions or due to regional procedures?
A/2000 (sometimes A/7000 in certain regional procedures)
What is the squawk code for an unserviceable transponder?
A/0000
What should be if previously indentified by an SSR code and you experience and emergency?
Maintain assigned squawk (can squawk 7700 if this is to be believed to be the best course of action)
When must mode C be selected?
Always
To what accuracy is a pilot to report altitude?
To the nearest 100ft
When is an SSR classed as serviceable?
When within 300m of correct altitude
What must be done if the transponder fails before departure?
- inform ATC
- enter N in item 10 of flight plan
- repair ASAP at nearest airport (only if required by ATC)
How must a new code be selected?
Select STBY, then new squawk and then ON
What must be done after a TCAS RA?
Return to flight plan or previous instruction
What must be told to ATC regarding a TCAS RA?
- as soon as practical about deviation
- when deviation has ended
Why should a pilot not maneovre in response to a TCAS TA?
To enhance situational awareness and alert pilots
On receipt of a TA what must be done by the crew?
Must use all info available to prepare for an RA
Can an RA be disregarded?
Only when it may jeopardises the safety of the aircraft
Who do you follow ATC or the RA?
RA
What is level occupancy?
Mode C indicates thatlevel +/- 300ft
What is maintaining a level?
Mode c indicates +/- 300ft
What is passing a level?
Mode c indicates +/- 300ft of a specified level
