What characteristics do chytrids share with protists? With fungi?
Protists- unicellular, produces spores (gametes) with flagella
Fungi- chitin, digest food outside of body, most produce hyphae, have spores
Where do chytrids live and how do they get food?
Most aquatic, some in moist places on land
Most saprobes, some parasites (frogs)
What are chytrids?
Aquatic fungi that provide clues about the evolution of fungi
What are zygote fungi named for?
Sexual reproductive structures that produce zygotes inside a tough capsule (zygosporangium)
Where are the spores of zygote fungi released from?
Sporangia
What is the sexual and spore releasing parts of sac fungi?
An ascus produces spores, full structure is an ascocarp
