Scope of Practice
These are the things that a professional can do to follow the terms of the professional license or credential.
Registered Dietician Nutritionist
This is the same as a registered dietician, and a legally protected designation.
Commission on Dietetic Registration
These individuals act as the part of the academy of nutrition and dietetics that establishes and enforces the standard for certification.
Certified Diabetes Educator
This is a person licensed to work with someone that has diabetes specifically.
Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner
Someone with an advanced nursing degree that needs two or more years of college past RN.
Physician Assistant
A licensed professional in healthcare that works under the supervision of a doctor or some other medical professional.
Doctor of Pharmacy
A pharmacist that has an advanced degree. They work with medical doctors for the preparation and dispensing the drugs or compounds.
Licensed
Common pre-requisites of licensing include formal education/training, pre-determined number of supervised contact hours, and successful completion of a standardized test.
Certified
Certification is granted to a person who has participated in an educational course and successfully completed a standardized test, written, practical, or both.
Nutritionist
A generic term for someone who provides nutrition counseling. Certification and licensing parameters are vague.
Macronutrients
Nutrients required in large quantities, including carbohydrates, proteins, and fats.
Micronutrients
Nutrients required in smaller quantities, including vitamins and minerals.
The SCOFF Questionnaire
Basic, yet reliable, set of questions that help assess whether an eating disorder exists.
Hypoglycemia
A condition of an abnormally low blood glucose (blood sugar) level in the blood.
