What is a psychological moratorium
asking questions and exploring possibilities on who you are

Explain Marcias “achieved” identity status
The person has explored and gone through crisis and has found a suitably identity
Explain Marcias “Foreclosed” identity
The person has committed to an identity but never explored or went through crisis
ex. I chose to be a doctor because my parents said so
Explain Marcias “moratorium” identity
the person does lots of exploring and goes through crisis, but doesn’t have any commitments
Explain Marcias “diffused” identity
doesn’t explore or commit, simply lost and does not care
What are the 4 gender role types
Masculine = low in femininity and high in masculinity
Feminine = low in masculinity and high in femininity
Androgynous = High in both masculinity and femininity
Undifferentiated = low in both masculinity and femininity
What are Salvin-Willians 4 stages on a person coming out as LGBTQ
- Attraction to members of the same sex
- Self labelling as LGBTQ
- Sexual contact with members of the same sex
- Coming out
How many years does it usually take from when a person usually notices they are attracted to the same sex, and when they actually decide to come out

What is ‘Categorization” in cultural identity
Identifying with one cultural group above all others (choosing 1 and sticking with it)
ex. I am strictly Canadian and nothing else (even if they are Latin American)
What is “Compartmentalization” in cultural identity
having multiple cultural identities that you transition between depending on the situation
What is “integration” in cultural identity
Claiming more than one cultural identity at the same time (the best option)
What are Phinney’s 3 stages of finding ethnic identity
- Unexamined (doesn’t pay attention to ethnic identity)
- Search (something makes identity relevant)
- Achievement (acceptance of an ethnic identity)
Does self esteem rise or decline in adolescence
It rises, after being at a low point around 12-13 years
