what does protecting social welfare mean?
protect things that are good for people like safety in workplaces
what does promoting moral improvements mean?
promoting people to do good rather than bad
ex. stealing or prohibition
what does creating economic reform mean?
workplace -> minimum wage
what does fostering efficiency mean?
making sure business makes use of time
what is prohibition
the banning of alcoholic beverages
who was Carry Nation and what did she do?
broke liquor bottles in bars with her hatchet because she thought liquor was bad, it was the drink of the devil
thought it lead to crime (hatchet and bible in her hand)
what did most people think about alcohol?
it caused crimes, so without it the crime rate would decrease
but the exact opposite happens -> more crimes were created to get alcohol
Pure food and drug act?
it was a law passed by government
drugs and food should be accurate in what it contains (what goes into food is checked)

it allows for regular citizens to write and propose laws
who was Susan B. Anthony and what did she do?
suffragist who worked for the right to cote for women

one of the magazine journalists who exposed the corrupt side of business and public life
they wrote about progressivism to make people aware and looking at the evils
