Ch. 14.1 Flashcards
Three differences between DNA and RNA
Unlike DNA, RNA uses the sugar ribose instead of deoxyribose.
RNA in signal stranded.
RNA contains Uracil in the place of Thymine
Three types of RNA
Messenger RNA, Transfer RNA, and Ribosomal RNA
Messenger RNA
Carries copies of instructions for the assembly of amino acids into proteins from DNA to the rest of the cell.
Transfer RNA
Type of RNA that carries each amino acid to a ribosome during protein synthesis
Transcription
The process of copying a base sequence from DNA to RNA is known as transcription
Where does transcription take place in the Eukaryotes
In the eukaryotic nucleus
Two roles of RNA polymerase
It binds to DNA and separates the DNA strands
It then uses one strand of DNA as a template to assemble nucleotides into a complementary strand of DNA
Ribosomal RNA
Type of RNA that combines with proteins to form ribosomes
