Q

What is light and how do we perceive it.

A

Light is a form of energy from the sun that travels to Earth. We perceive the sun in wave lengths. Different wavelengths help determine what colors or shades we see.

Q

Why do leaves look green

A

Because chlorophyll reflects light in the green region. This is what turns leaves green.

16
Q

What is the equation for photosynthesis

A

Carbon dioxide+water when combined with light = sugars + oxygen

17
Q

Light Dependent reactions

A

Set of reactions in photosynthesis that use energy from light to produce NADPH, ATP, and O2. Take place in thylakoid membranes

18
Q

Light independent reactions

A

Set of reactions in photosynthesis that do not require light. Energy from ATP to NADPH is used to build high energy compounds such as sugar. Takes place in stroma.

19
Q

Photsystems

A

Clusters of chlorophyll and proteins found in thylakoids.

20
Q

Another name for light independent reactions

A

Calvin cycle

21
Q

What factors affect photosynthesis

A

Temperature, light intensity, and availability of water
