Ch 12 Instruments Flashcards
Evaluation of depth gauge accuracy in a canine tibial
plateau leveling osteotomy model
McChesney 2021
Objective: To evaluate the accuracy of six depth gauges used in three tibial
plateau leveling osteotomy (TPLO) plate holes.
Study design: Ex vivo experimental study.
Conclusion: Depth gauges lacked accuracy. Measurements differed among
gauges and measurement variability varied based on plate hole geometry.
The effect of a smoke-evacuation unit on ultrafine particle
concentrations in the operating room during approach to
the proximal tibia for tibial plateau-leveling osteotomy
surgery in dogs
Geier 2021
smoke-evacuation unit on reducing
ultrafine particle concentration in the operating room (OR) during (TPLO).
Study design: Prospective, randomized, controlled clinical trial.
Particle matter: dead and living cellular material, blood fragments, bacteria, and viruses
Toxic chemicals: mutagens and
carcinogens.
The use of a smoke evacuator decreased particle concentrations
56.4% during the approach to the proximal tibia.
