What is the role of the Movement Activity Control Officer (MACO)?
- Responsible for the development of the manifests and ensuring all personnel in the convoy are accounted for at all times
Who is the vehicle commander?
- Usually a petty officer in charge of all vehicles carrying troops
Who is the pace setter?
- Usually a petty officer stationed in the lead vehicle
Who are the guides?
Personnel posted at critical intersections when on a non-tactical convoy
Who are escorts?
- Military police or other personnel for a non-tactical movement
- During tactical movements, the escort may be armed guards, armed aircraft, infantry, armored units, or other units as required to protect or accompany the convoy.
What does green mean in a convoy route?
Relatively safe from hostile activity, conditions on route are good.
What does yellow mean in a convoy route?
Subject to limited hostile activity, conditions of route are fair.
What does red mean in a convoy route?
Hostile activity is imminent, conditions of route are impassible.
What are the rules of convoy travel?
- 30 mph on open road
- 100ft interval between vehicles
- Speed determined by slowest vehicle in convoy, weather, terrain, enemy activity, and or time of day.
