Q

What’s facilitated diffusion

A

Larger molecules, such as glucose and amino acids, and ions, such as NA+, cannot cross the phospholipid layer

Q

Active transport
Why would a cell need to use energy to move substances/

A

Some forms of transport require the movement of substances against a concentration gradient

Q

Exocytosis

A

Material is exported out of the cell via secretory vesicle. Exocytosis is important in removing waste materials from the cell and in secreting cellular products

Q

What is Endocytosis

A

Material is imported into the cell via a secretory vesicle. Endocytosis is important because some molecules can’t pass through the plasma membrane naturally

Q

Exocytosis steps

A

step1. vesicle containing products move to the cell plasma membrane
step2. vesicle fuses with the plasma membrane
step3. contents of the vesicle are exported out of the cell

15
Q

Phagocytosis (type of endocytosis)

A

The cell’s plasma membrane surrounds a molecule, such as a food particle, in the extracellular environment and buds off to form a vacuole that contains a molecule. The molecule is then digested by enzymes

16
Q

Pinocytosis (type of endocytosis)

A

Same as phagocytosis except the cell’s membrane surrounds droplets of fluid containing dissolved solutes

17
Q

Pinocytosis steps

A

step1. Cell membrane surrounds droplets of fluid
step2. cell membrane closes around the fluid droplets
step3. vesicle containing fluid droplets with dissolved solutes is drawn into the cell
