Cardiopulm Medical Procedures Flashcards
Standard tx for conditions affecting the electrical conduction system including a slow HR and arrhythmias
Pacemaker
Blood is rerouted around the affected artery joining the pt’s own saphenous vein, internal thoracic/mammary artery, or radial artery to connect the affected artery above and below the occclusion
CABG
Pump implanted in the chest to provide mechanical support to the ventricules
Ventricular assist devices (VAD)
When are VADs commonly used?
As a temporary tx for people waiting for a heart transplant
Increasingly used as a permanent tx for heart failure
Plastic tube shaped to fit the curvature of the soft palate and tongue that holds the tongue away from the back of the throat and maintained airway latency
Oral pharyngeal airway
Latex or rubber tube inserted through the nose to allow for nasotracheal suctioning
Nasal pharyngeal airway
Plastic tube inserted in the trachea from the mouth or nose to provide an airway and to allow for mechanical ventilation
Endotracheal tube
An artificial airway inserted into the trachea from an incision in the neck below the vocal cords used in patients needing prolonged mechanical ventilation
Tracheostomy tube
Surgical procedure in which one or more of the large air spaces called bullae that form when the alveoli are destroyed by emphysema are removed
Bullectomy
Lung transplants are reserved for these pts
- end stage COPD
- interstitial pulmonary fibrosis
- other serious lung diseases
*don’t have serious comorbidities
A portion of lung tissue damaged by emphysema is removed, which creates extra space in the chest
Lung volume reduction surgery
Pt needs supplemental O2 with saturation ≤ ___% while seated at rest
88%
