Often don’t recognize their ill and resist treatment
impulsive
May dress more flamboyantly or sexualized
behaviors can be disorganized or bizarre
Can become hostile, physically threatening
can become psychotic-more likely to become physically assaultive or suicidal
moods can shift rapidly
manic episodes typically begin suddenly and often occur following psychosocial stressors
What is cyclothymic disorder
Chronic fluctuating mood disturbance involving numerous periods of hypomanic episodes and numerous periods of depressive symptoms for at least two years
symptom-free intervals don’t last longer than two months
What is bipolar disorder rapid cycling
Four or more mood episodes within the last 12 months
