Q

What is the meristem tissue and where is it found

A

It is found mainly at the tips of the roots where it produces new cells for plant growth

9
Q

What are the stages of water transport

A

1- water enters the plant through the soil
2- water is transported through the xylem
3- once at the leaves the water will evaporate through the stomata

11
Q

What can affect transpiration

A

-increase in temperature causes an increase the rate as there is more energy transferred
- faster air flow will increase the rate as it will move away water vapour allowing more to evaporate
- increased light intensity causes an increase as it will cause the stomata to open
- an increase in humidity DECREASES the rate as the air contains more water vapour

Q

What is the role of guard cells

A

To open and close the stomata
Daytime- open
Nightime- closed

13
Q

Why are stomata closed at night time

A

Because the carbon dioxide is not needed for photosynthesis so closing the stomata prevents water loss
